Texting Now Illegal While Driving a Truck or Bus

Recent legislation from the US Government has made it illegal for drivers of large trucks and buses to send text messages while behind the wheel.

In a statement from Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood,

We want the drivers of big rigs and buses and those who share the roads with them to be safe. This is an important safety step and we will be taking more to eliminate the threat of distracted driving.

This follows a similar ban in December for drivers of government vehicles.

Many states already have legislation again texting while driving, but this is the first nationwide ban on the distraction.  It’s estimated by the National Safety Council that upwards of 200,000 crashes a year in the United States can be attributed to texting.
